
The Jaguar XJ first came into production in 1968 with the XJ6. The XJ series, since its inception, was divided into three Marks. Mark 1 was from 1968 to 1992, Mark 2 from 1986-2002 and Mark 3 from 2002 until today.
The Jaguar XJ Mark 1 cars were the very first XJ series of Jaguar. Mark 1 has three series of cars and one coupe. Series 1 is known as the XJ6 and XJ12 and was produced from 1968-1973. The Series 2 were produced from 1973 to 1979. A major departure from the previous series was the longer wheelbase and a particularly smaller grille. The XJ Coupe were produced in 1975 until 1978, production was only limited to three years because its labor intensive and the price is higher than anticipated. Series 3 came in 1979 and was produced until 1989. It’s the most prolific of all the Mark 1 series with production up to 130,000 cars.
Mark 2 is the introduction of the new model and more series as the years go by until 2002. The very first Mark 2 cars were the XJ40 and was produced from 1986-1989. The car features a four-speed with an automatic transmission and a new design. Jaguar XJ Mark 2 experienced a total of six
revisions. Namely they are XJ40 from 1989-1994 (engine replaced and digital indicators were returned to analog), the XJ81 from 1993-1994, the X300 from 1995-1997, the X305 from 1995-1996 and finally the X308 which came into production from 1997-2002. The X308 was undoubtedly the culminating design of the Mark 2 XJ cars as it stayed in production for five years.
The XJ Mark 3 car begins with the X350. The car was came into production since 2002 and is still in production. X350 is a six speed automatic transmission car. The car is face lifted for the 2008 production.
