The Jaguar 340 were produced from 1967-1968. The car’s predecessor, the Jaguar 240 and the Jaguar 340, has almost the same body and engine components compared to the Jaguar 240. Only 2630 cars were produced with this model.
The immediately noticeable difference of the Jaguar 340 with its predecessor was the design. Jaguar features smaller bumpers both on its front and back. The seats and the interior covers of the car were actually in plastic. However, the production of this plastic upholstery can be easily mistaken as leather. On the engine side, 340 features a 3442cc six cycle twin overhead camshaft. Jaguar 340 is also heavier, weighting up to 3360lbs. compared to its predecessor which is only up 2980lbs. Both of these cars however feature a four-speed manual transmission. The car much like its predecessor is a four door sedan saloon. During its original production there were 9 cars that were
produced that has a 3.8 model engine compared to the 3.4 model engine to most of the Jaguar 340 cars. These cars were factory ordered and have a special badge bearing the name 340/3-8 named after the car design and its model. There were also cars which were not actually the 240/340 models but has badges on it. They were actually given by car dealers to help sales and should not be confused with other MK2 cars.
Jaguar 340 in terms of speed has improved with its newly designed engine based on the jaguar XK cars. The 340 can run up to 120mph and can go fro 0-60 in only 11.9 seconds.
The car basically lives up to the motto provided by its founder Sir William Lyons. Sir William believes that each car should have “grace, pace and space”. With the production of the jaguar 340, Jaguar has updated its offer of quality during that time.
